Keeping Your Personal Information Safe

Published 26/10/2016

Protecting your personal information starts with you – just use your common sense, trust your better judgment, and keep these tips in mind!

Rules To Live By To Protect Yourself

Passwords and Privacy

Never give out your passwords to ANYONE! No one at CAM4 will ever ask you for your passwords – don’t be fooled by someone posing as a staff member who is trying to ‘help’.

A useful tip for password protection is to use different passwords for all of your online accounts. That way, if someone does get access to your password, the damage will be contained to only one account

The friendly staff at CAM4 will never approach you first via e-mail, Skype, Twitter, Facebook, or any other form of communication. You can always email us and ask us to confirm the identity of someone who has contacted you as well.

Third Party Sites

Use a new Google Drive account with your CAM4 name and fake personal info to host the videos you have for sale. This way, all you need to do is share the URL link from Google Drive through CAM4 mail or a private message. This method is free and the viewer does not need a Google Drive account to use the link.

If you do use Skype please remember to NEVER open photos or click on links that people have sent you, no matter how nice they seem. They could contain a virus or key logger.

You can protect your address when receiving Amazon gifts from fans by using package forwarding services from companies like UPS and Stackly. They give you a US address where your packages are shipped too, then they ship it to you anywhere worldwide.

Instead of an Amazon Wish List, you can accept Amazon Gift Cards. Your fans can send them to an email account that you have set up just for CAM4 using fake personal information. Make sure to send back a pic of the gift you buy!

Stay Safe By Keeping Your Location Secret

Taking selfies with your phone is super fun and easy – just remember to turn off your GPS locator first. Your phone tags the location of where a picture was taken and adds it in the image info, you can see it when you right click on your image.

Make sure you set up your broadcast space so no images of your family, friends, school books, utility bills, street signs or other personal identifiers can be seen. Webcams are getting better all the time, so household items in the background could be easily seen.

When you are mailing things to your fan, use services like mailforwardingservice.xrto.net that let you mail and receive packages anonymously for a small fee.

If you are doing a show from your parked vehicle, make sure you cover your licence plate if you decide to broadcast from outside your car
