Quick Stress Relief: Take a Sniff of Your Girlfriend’s Dirty Laundry

Relax. You deserve it, it’s good for you, and it takes less time than you think. You don’t need a spa weekend or a retreat. Try this: Hold one of your girlfriend’s T-shirts up to your face and inhale deeply. While that might sound weird or creepy, the scent of your partner’s clothes may help lower your stress level, new research suggests.

The connection between scent and memory is very strong.

Incoming smells are first processed by the olfactory bulb, which starts inside the nose and runs along the bottom of the brain. The olfactory bulb has direct connections to two brain areas that are strongly implicated in emotion and memory

Unlike other animals, we humans have evolved to rely most on our sense of vision—but your sense of smell may be more important than you think.

So before you throw away all of his/her clothes into the washing machine, take a quick sniff ☺
